Dr. Martínez was born on October 15, 1943, in the city of Manzanillo, Granma in Cuba. He began working as a veterinarian in 1971, and then began his professional life as a professor at the Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba. He was one of the first faculty members of the newly founded School of Veterinary Medicine at the Universidad de Oriente. In 1986, the Minister of Higher Education of Cuba, based on the educational and scientific results achieved, granted him the Academic Title of Full Professor. In May of that same year he successfully defended the thesis to obtain his Doctorate in Veterinary Sciences. He has worked as head of the Department of Bovine Production at the Universidad de Oriente as well as the head of medicine and animal production plans in the Santiago de Cuba region. He has over fifty years working in higher education, and during that time has supervised over 200 undergraduate, masters, and doctorate theses. He has authored over 50 academic articles published in a variety of research journals and has published one book on the plant “Anacardium Occidentale” and its medicinal applications. He has two other books in process of publication: one on the care and health of canines, and the other on health and diseases of goats. Furthermore, he brings with him an invaluable richness of experience in project writing and management.
