Mission and Values

The mission of UNIF is to form a new generation of citizens who participate with determination and conviction in the sustainable and integrated development of their country through the communal sections.

The vision of UNIF is the creation of a new generation of citizens who are able to identify the ressources in their communities of origin and transform them into wealth for the benefit of all.

UNIF is guided in its work and decision making by the following key values:

• Identify, recruit, and train students who have the skills and integrity to contribute to the development of their country through the communal sections.
• Train polyglotte students who are able to dominate French, Creole, and one foreign language and who are able to participate in conferences, study, and conduct research throughout the Americas or in Europe.
• Provide translation services and language training services to the community. Promote Haitian Creole as a professional and academic language.
• Conduct research with the goal of sparking sustainable development throughout Haiti.
• Adapt the academic curriculum to the specific reality faced by our students in rural Haiti.
• Integrate work, and especially work with local peasant families, directly into the academic curriculum of UNIF.
• Ensure the voice and participation of the local peasantry in the creation and the evaluation of our academic curriculum following the philosophy of popular education.
• Work to support and evaluate the Local Development Communities (LDC's) created by APF (find out more about the LDC's here).
• Aim to ensure that each communal section of Haiti has access to a veterinarian, agronomist, and business specialist.
• Encourage students to become entrepeneurs and job creators, who are able to put into practice their knowledge and abilities for the service of their communities of origin.
• Create the future leaders of Haiti, who will be global citizens with a strong moral character, and who will be able to participate in creating national and local policies which prioritise local and sustainable development. Create a generation who denounces corruption, gangsterization, and political violence, and instead calls for justice for the most marganlized of society, especially Haiti's rural poor.
