Impact on the Community

Extension refers to the the promulgation of research findings to the community at large, so that they can benefit from those findings. It is therefore a central part of UNIF’s mission to spark development throughout Haiti through education as well as knowledge creation and innovation.
Currently, UNIF has extended the following innovations throughout the Fondwa community:

• The Terra Preta plot structures.
• How to create an organic pesticide to protect crops through locally available inputs.
• Growing cash crops such as lettuce, grapefruit, peppers, and more, as opposed to traditional staple crops.
• Dealing with and avoiding a variety of crop and/or livestock diseases.

In order to increase UNIF’s presence in the community, UNIF has conducted the following activities among others: 

• A research meeting in 2021on the theme of "Local Synergy: The Role of Scientific Research in Local Development," which included presenters from Haiti, the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Cuba. During this, multiple activities took place to share UNIF findings wiht the local community.  that will be open to the public and especially to local Fondwa peasants in order to share with them the findings of UNIF. • A day of agriculture in 2022 to present certain best practices to local peasantry.
• A consulting seminar on leadership and time management conducted by the UNIF School of Business Management and open to the public in 2022.
