The University of Fondwa (UNIF) is the first university in Haiti to operate in a rural communal section (Fondwa, or Fond'Oies, 10th Communal Section of Leogane). UNIF was founded by the Association of Peasants of Fondwa (APF) in order to confront the problems of development in Haiti, especially those encountered by the peasantry in the 572 communal sections.
UNIF aims to be the standard-bearer of sustainable development in Haiti and to eliminate the historical inequalities between the urban elite and the rural poor.
